Drive Cam
The safety of our employees and other road users is a priority at Hall’s. On the job driving is one of the riskiest activities our employees undertake on a daily basis. Consequently, any vehicle incidents, particularly preventable incidents, continue to be an area that needs constant reinforcement.
The DriveCam system is designed to encourage safe driving performance and reduce at-risk driving behaviours. There are currently over 120 Hall’s vehicles deployed with the DriveCam system today and results have proven to be significant.
The system is designed to capture audio and video inside and outside the vehicle when triggered by unusual force such as hard braking, swerving, or a collision. This is an exception-based recording system meaning it only saves an event when the vehicle experiences hard force. Once triggered, a 20 second video is saved consisting of 10 seconds before the force was experienced and 10 seconds afterwards.
There is also a button on the event recorder for the driver to activate the equipment manually. Our drivers use this to record issues such as: traffic problems causing service delays or to record risky behaviour of other road users that can be forward to the relevant authorities/company.
Follow up with the driver is scheduled when a video contains driving behaviour that is risky or against company policy. During that feedback session, employees are provided an opportunity to view and comment on the video. Positive encouragement is provided when good driving behaviours are observed. Equally true, when risky behaviours are observed, employees are provided with positive coaching, delivered in a manner that will reduce further at-risk behaviour and increase good driving behaviours.
This is an effective tool that has proven benefits and is extremely time effective as any clips are down-loaded wirelessly when our vehicles go past any Hall’s depot.
