Manual Handling
There has always been a risk when manual handling tasks are involved that injuries will result. At Hall’s we found in certain areas of our business manual handling tasks were resulting in strains and sprains that was impacting on the employee and the business. As a result we introduced a manual handling training programme, through Provention, to assist in giving techniques to reduce strains and sprains.
We have found this programme to be effective and the results is something we are constantly monitoring. Because let’s be honest we are frequently working in challenging physical environments. These range from long lengths of time sitting, to heavy manual work often in awkward settings and unfortunately these challenges are an unchanging part of our business.
Provention training is focused on giving employees the tools and awareness to reduce the risk of injury even in these challenging set ups. It is not about being able to move safely all of the time but to have skills to reduce the strain on your body and hence limit the likelihood of suffering an injury.
For instance how:
- You can use your hands more effectively to fire your abdominal muscles and support your back when your pushing and pulling frames.
- Lifting like a weight lifter will automatically use your legs and take the stress of your back.
- Moving with balance when you are bending takes care of your back and knees
- Using your shoulders wisely when you are transferring pig carcasses will take the pressure of your back and your shoulder.
- Once we use our body effectively we will automatically have more strength and less tension.
Hall’s have found this programme to significantly reduce injuries associated with manual handling. If you would like further information to see if Provention can assist your business call Alison Richmond on 0274 950 045
