Safety @ Hall’s
Hall’s is at the forefront of safety within the Transport Industry in New Zealand. Our Road to Zero Programme incorporates strong policies and procedures which are supported through robust systems.
Safety is the first agenda item for all Hall’s meetings, and we are committed to ensuring that our safety performance continues to improve.
Safety sits above everything we do at Hall’s and this is also most evident at the front end of recruitment. We have rigorous measures and hurdles that are required to be passed before being offered a job at Hall’s. These, along with the normal recruitment processes, include:
- A driving assessment with one of our qualified in-house driver trainers
- Full medical and Drug test
- Accident Risk Management (ARM) Profile Programme
At Hall’s safety is everyone’s priority and providing a safe and healthy work environment for employees, customers and the community is not optional - it is just what we do.
Halls have a dedicated Driver Training Team who are involved in the recruitment, training, on-going assessment and development of drivers. Our comprehensive induction and training programme doesn’t stop once the driver has been employed. Drivers start with a buddy system then have regular in-cab assessments and along with Road Show meetings and DriveCam review, address wide-ranging issues including safety attitude, fatigue awareness, gear control, road position and, efficient driving and safe driving.
We are constantly reviewing and analysing our culture, our safety results and feedback, from our safety meetings (12 safety meetings every month), result in continuous improvement initiatives. Some of these initiatives include:l
- DriveCam Programme
- Ever-changing safety signage and messages
- Safety Cross
- Road Shows
- Fatigue Tool Box meetings
- Manual handling training
- Safety Training
- A sharing of safety learning’s with large NZ companies
- Grippers
Our innovative Our Road to Zero Programme goes beyond doing the basics well. This is about stepping up to the ever moving challenges our industry presents. We do this through constant analysis feedback from our safety meetings and audits. Everyone takes personal responsibility for their safety, and for the safety of others.
