MANAGING AUCKLAND FLOODS

If there was ever a time to demonstrate the pure resilience and adaptability of our Hall’s team, the recent Auckland floods was certainly such an occasion!

While the impacted regions are not out of the woods yet, and certainly the devastation is still very much prevalent and recovery ongoing; we have to acknowledge the enormous efforts of our teams to date.

To mention a few things that happened the weekend of the flood:

  • Our Operations Support Planning and Dispatch Manager was on site at Takanini throughout the weekend providing service updates to our major customers impacted, while coordinating a number of activities to service our customers.

  • Our analyst completed deliveries and recovered freight on the North Shore and Central Auckland on Saturday and Sunday

  • Our Metro sub-contractors had drivers running through Saturday re-delivering into customer’s stores once the roads reopened

  • On Sunday morning we sent a unit to Whangarei to our linehaul delivery sub-contractor who delivered freight that was missed due to road closures on Saturday

  • Our Retail Planning and Dispatch Team re-routed all the Northland, North Shore and Whitianga drivers and units

  • Our Customer Support team was in communication with affected customers through the night, along with the drivers of the above runs, ensuring no one left on routes where the condition was unknown or unsafe

  • Our Auckland Shift Manager was out and about on the weekend helping to unblock the drains!

  • Our Auckland Depot Manager was on site dealing with the freezer and chiller condensation with the rapid change in weather

This is just a small picture of what happened in the background. We want to say a big THANK YOU to all our team members who went above and beyond during this time, and still continue to manage the ever-changing situation.

In true kiwi spirit, when the chips are down, we all come together to support each other and our customers.
